Forbidden Fruit- Part 9
A few months later
Susannah walked into the study of her parent’s house and found her father deep in thought. She took a seat next to him and he could already tell what she was going to say before she said it.
Len: Don’t say it.
Susannah: Why not? SOMEBODY has to. You were wrong daddy. This is not some case of puppy dog love. She is locked in that room like a dungeon. The only reason she eats is because she’s pregnant.
Len: Don’t remind me.
Susannah: Well you better get used to it because it’s not going away. (Pause) You know, you tried to do this to ME too and we all know how well THAT turned out.
Len: You weren’t involved with someone twice your age.
Susannah: Don’t you think that’s a little dramatic? She’s right you know… if this had happened a year later, nobody would be saying a dam thing. I’ve known people who have had bigger age differences then them. The only reason it’s an issue is because he’s over 18.
Len: Are you saying you support this?
Susannah: It doesn’t matter what I want. It only matters what she wants. I want my sister to be happy and right now she’s not. And daddy, you have to face reality here. You’re just upset that your baby girl lost her virginity. Is that worth losing your daughter forever because I’m telling you right now daddy… if you don’t get over this vendetta you have against Bo then the minute Nora turns 18, she’s going to high tail it out of here so fast it will make your head spin and who knows WHEN or IF she’ll be back. You may never get to see your grandchild. You are risking an awful lot by keeping her away from the man she loves.
Len: She’ll get over it.
Susannah: Sorry daddy but I really don’t think she will. Nora might be a teenager but in a lot of ways she knows more about love then ANY of us. And even if you are right… at what cost is it? Who the hell cares who’s right or wrong at this point? It’s NOT your job to dictate who your daughter loves. You almost lost ME when you tried to do it and I can guarantee you that you will lose Nora if you continue this vendetta. The stakes are MUCH higher with her… She actually loves the guy… AND she’s pregnant. What’s to stop her from telling you to go to hell the minute she turns 18? I love you daddy but you are wrong this time. You need to accept the fact that you are no longer the only man in Nora’s life.
Len: That’s not what this is about.
Susannah: Well whatever it’s about you need to nip it in the bud. I have NEVER seen my little sister this mad. And I’m telling you right now if you want to have ANY relationship with her at all you NEED to cut Bo some slack. She’s miserable without him. And that in turn makes ME miserable because when Nora aint happy, aint nobody happy.
And with that she walked out of the study and left her father with a lot to think of.

Nora had finally left the house and was sitting outside at the park with her feet in the pond. She was trying to imagine a life that didn’t include Bo and it still made her miserable. When she thought of her life down the line, it always started with fantasies of him. In about six months, she would be 18 and she would also be a new mother. This was definitely not the life she thought she would have but it was the life she had chosen. And as much as it hurt to lose him, she knew she wouldn’t have changed a thing because meeting Bo… loving Bo… having his child… it taught her so many life lessons that she never could have learned in school… mostly it taught her what it meant to love someone without condition.
She felt the wind blow her hair back and when she looked up she saw him standing there. She knew she should have run but for some reason her feet were planted firmly on the ground and she was physically unable to move. He sat down next to her, took off his shoes and put them in the pond next to her. He smiled at her and she returned it.
Bo: You know… I never believed any of those lies you told me. I didn’t fight you because I understood why you did it. But I need you to know that I ache for you. I wish we could find a way to be together because I will never stop loving you.
Nora: It killed me to break your heart Bo. I went home and cried myself to sleep. But the law doesn’t protect people like us. My father is a judge and when he walks into a courtroom, people listen. Your life would have been destroyed if I didn’t do what he asked. I loved you too much to be selfish… and for the record… I ache for you too. You were the best decision I ever made.
Bo: So what are we supposed to do Nora? We’re bound to run into each other. How can we do this when we still love each other?
Nora: I don’t know… fake it.
Bo: How can I fake this?
She wasn’t able to stop him from pulling the hair back from her face and looking deeply in her eyes as if he could see through to her soul. And she REALLY wasn’t able to stop his lips from crashing down on hers. She knew it would be smart to walk away. If her father caught her now it would be all over. But somehow when he kissed her, she didn’t want him to stop. His hands came down to her stomach and he lifted her shirt to place a kiss on her growing abdomen.
Bo: Please don’t forget that your daddy loves you… and your momma.
Nora: Bo…
He took her mouth in his one more time and kissed her so passionately that she had to remind herself to breathe. The sound of his name on her lips brought them back to reality before crossing the line.
Bo: Don’t ever forget what you mean to me.
It was then that he had walked away and she wasn’t sure what he meant by his final statement. She lay back down on the ground and looked up at the sky.
Nora: Dear God if there’s a way to fix this then please just give me a sign. I don’t know how to be what you want me to be. I can’t be the obedient daughter anymore. I only want to be Bo’s wife. He doesn’t know that I never filed those papers. Neither does my dad. They’re locked in a safety deposit box with no signature. What am I supposed to do? If I follow my heart then the man I love could be destroyed and if I follow my head then my heart is broken. Please just give me the courage to know what to do when I get there.
And with that she picked up her things and walked back to the house.
