Chapter 54
The Port Charles Motocross Roadway
“See,” Casey got Marissa’s attention flashing back the shots using the digital camera’s viewer, “pictures of the event and not just of Jamal.”
“For which I’ll have to graciously thank you.” She replied trying to be a good sport. She didn’t want to say that it might have something to do with the reality of Jamal not being available for pictures for a while since they’d seen him withdraw from one of his heats.
“You should have more faith in me sis. Now you have what you want and I was able to get some good shot for my own private collection.” A frown of concern swept over Casey’s face. “I hope nothing serious happened.”
“When he pulled over it looked like it was something mechanical.” Marissa said in observation.
“You think that’s what it is?”
“Most likely.” She could see the real concern on Casey’s face. “I’m sure this kind of thing happens all the time. It is a machine.”
“I guess you’re right.” Casey put the camera back in the carryall case. She looked at her watch. She had gotten a sufficient amount of pictures for Marissa and if she wasn’t going to see Jamal anymore…. “You know Rissa we can leave now if you want. Things should be over pretty soon and this way we can beat the rush.”
Marissa gave her a startled look. She had actually been enjoying the sport but at Casey’s words, she did look around to assess the large crowd. Getting a head start out would be a good idea. “Okay. I’m ready if you are. It will give me a chance to go to the mall.”
The mall! Casey couldn’t believe it. It was like the gods were smiling down on her. She had been thinking how could she get her sister to take her to the mall and drop her off, without arousing suspicions. Thankfully, one part of the equation was solved. Now she just needed Marissa to leave her there because she had other plans for getting home that night.
It had been an exciting day with no mishaps. Gia was breathing sighs of relief. Her heart had been in her throat every time she had seen Jason’s name and number appear for a lane on the board or heard his name from the announcers. She wished the reaction had been excitement but unfortunately, it was fear. She had been talking with Courtney and Livvie about how she could conquer her phobia and she had come up with an idea. They thought she was crazy but she was going to go forth with what she believed will be a cure to her problem.
She turned to Courtney to make a comment and noticed her faraway forlorn look. Gia looked at Livvie to get her attention before reaching over and gently touched Courtney’s arm.
“You have been awfully quiet all morning. I know you two have been there for me today and I’m sorry for being so self-absorbed.”
Courtney and Livvie protested her wording.
Livvie contradicted her. “Gia you are just worried about your man. I’ve been there and I understand where you’re coming from.”
“Exactly,” Courtney inputted, “I understand too. You have a right to be concerned and we want to help.”
“I know you do,” Gia looked back and forth between them, “Both of you. But I can see how you are feeling Courtney. Do you want to talk about it?” She knew Courtney knew what she was referring too. The appearance of the Leong twins this morning. There was only one reason that made sense to any of them as to why they would show up here and they didn’t think it was an interest in the sport.
“Gia’s right Court. We are here for you too so if you need to talk…”
“What’s to talk about?” Courtney shrugged a little dejected and sad.
“About Casey and her sister being here and how that makes you feel.” Gia said honestly.
“Gia it’s not a big deal.” Courtney tried to be nonchalant about the entire issue. She’d been thinking about what it all meant a lot more than she was comfortable admitting. “Maybe he asked her to come see him? I mean we have all seen this coming so I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise.”
They had seen this coming so Gia couldn’t with any heart refute her statement. But she doubted that Jamal had asked Casey to come. No, that much she was sure of. It was obvious to anyone who was anywhere around the two of them that they were lighting sparks off each other but Jamal was still in denial. The denial wasn’t as deep as it had been but it was still there.
Livvie intervened in the conversation and said what Gia was thinking. “No way Courtney did Jamal invite someone here.” She had never seen the infamous Casey before today but Jack had also told her about what was going on. Jack was positive that Jamal had feelings for her and Livvie knew that Jack was close enough to him to know for sure. She had no reason to believe that he would be wrong about something like that.
Courtney gave a fatalistic sign. “Maybe not but he likes her and it’s only and matter of time before he admits it.” It was a statement Livvie and Gia had to silently agree with.
Later…
Things at the end of the long afternoon went exactly like they did the first time Gia came to see Jason race except this time they made it to the building without seeing Alison and Marcus.
As Gia, Livvie and Courtney walked to the planned rendezvous area, their timing appeared perfect. At a distance, they could see the guys standing near the back of the building and watched as Jack hugged and waved off his brother Chris. Jamal spotted them walking their way, waved, in acknowledgement before turning to walk away in the direction of the truck and bike trailer. Today was Jamal’s turn to drive the trailer with their bikes back to the shop. It was something he and Jack traded off on doing. Swerving to see who had caught his attention, Jack saw them coming and he and Jason started walking in their direction.
AJ elbowed Emily on her arm as they watched Jason make a beeline for Jack’s girlfriend and two other females heading in their direction. He remembered Livvie from his last visit home and knew soon they would know who Gia was.
“Which one Em? The blonde or the one in the braids? I know that short one is Jack’s girlfriend Livvie so; I’m going with the one with the braids. That’s Gia.” He was extremely amused.
“Come on AJ, like that’s a guess?” She snorted as they closed the distance to the group. “Look how he’s looking in her direction…Gia is definitely the one in the braids, without a doubt.”
“She looks familiar…I think I have met her before. Her mother work at General Hospital doesn’t she?” He was looking at Gia, recognizing her face but still trying to remember exactly where he’d met her.
“Yes. Remember? Mom and Dad mentioned it when you were so cleverly outing Jason’s love life.”
“That’s right! It must have been at the hospital.” He smiled, “That was a great moment wasn’t it?” He thought back fondly on being able to spread the gossip that Jason was in affect juggling two women, Gia Campbell and Alison Barrington.
“That depends on who you asked. Think about it AJ, if not for you, Grandfather would have never teamed up with that Barrington brat.”
“You have a point. Guilty as charged but luckily I’m here now to do damage control.”
AJ and Emily had come in with Jason that morning after he’d found it hard to convince his parents that they needed to come in separate cars. AJ was there not only for his brother but also as the family liaison for the afternoon. He’d come up with the idea that he should invite everyone; that being all Jason’s friends back to the house for an impromptu get together instead of finding someplace to eat and hangout. That way they could all have anything they wanted cooked or ordered in without having to decide on one place. Monica had thought it was a good idea and surprisingly enough Edward who was at the breakfast table at the time also agreed.
That, Edward’s docile agreement had made everyone at the table suspicious of him, but they didn’t know exactly what they needed to be suspicious about.
AJ put his hand on Emily shoulder and squeezed. “Well Em this is it. We are about to meet our prospective sister-in-law.”
“Maybe AJ, maybe. I’m not as sure as you are.” She still wasn’t ready to go that far yet.
AJ looked at the expression on his brother’s face and he didn’t have any doubts. “Trust me you will be before the day is out.”
